We couldn't reproduce the issue on our system but we did find an extra flag that we suspect caused the problem so we removed it.

A-10C Basic Flight Training Campaign and Practice Missions Updated

The A-10C Basic Flight Training Qualification Campaign and practice mission package has been updated.

We corrected an issue found in BFT08 - Emergencies that stopped one of the triggers from firing properly on landing.  A game update changed the behavior of an altitude trigger.  We have removed it.

The updated package will be delivered using EDs module manager.  If you have not purchased the campaign you can get it from here:

Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle Start-Up Issue

Many users have complained about the Warthog Throttle not working properly after a DCS update some months ago.

Moving the throttle from the CUTOFF position to IDLE (over the detent) was not working on engine startup.

This was reported in this forum post here.

We also experienced the same issue on our system.  Our workaround was to move the the throttle out of detent twice.

We investigated further and found that if you disable the HOTAS Synchronization setting under OPTIONS, MISC then that also fixes the issue (at least it did on our system).

Here is a diagram showing the setting that needs to change.

Hopefully this will help you out and get your throttle working in game again as expected.

Fix Identified. A-10C Tactical Training Qualification Campaign Updated Soon!

Good news! We have found the bug and have tested a fix and it works!

It appears that 1.2.16 version changed something in the way wingmen radio calls were managed. The changelog mentions this: "Fixed error in radio speech scripts AI planes for some countries."

In our missions we were using a trigger to reduce the number of target call outs as it was cluttering up the comms. The change in 1.2.16 appears to change the behavior of this trigger so now when implemented the wingmen go completely silent with no radio call acknowledgements.

Our fix is to remove this trigger and we have confirmed that wingmen comms are re-established.

We will be updating all the missions that have this trigger soon.

Your existing mission keys and passwords will work with the updated package.

Wingmen Comms Broken in Part B of the A-10C Tactical Training Qualification Campaign

It has come to our attention that Wingmen comms are broken in Part B of the Tactical Training Qualification Campaign (missions TAC18 - TAC25).

It appears that a DCS Game Engine update has caused the problem. The Wingmen still respond but there is no radio comms for them to acknowledge the orders.

This makes playing those missions extremely difficult especially since you can't hear the "UNABLE" or "REJOIN" responses and no text is displayed.

If you still want to attempt the missions you can assume they are using EMCON 4 (Emission Control Level 4 which means no radio communication or emitter use). The Wingmen will follow your orders (given via the function key menus) they just won't acknowledge them so it is still possible to complete the missions (the success triggers are geared around targets destroyed not which aircraft does the destruction).

We are investigating a workaround and trying to identify the Game Engine update that caused the problem.

Part A of the Tactical Training Qualification Campaign (missions TAC11 - TAC17) is still playable as Wingmen are not required to complete those missions.

We apologize for the frustration this has caused many of you.

We will post an updated Part B when we determine a workaround that allows the missions to be completed successfully in the absence of working Wingmen comms.

Game Bug effecting F-15C BFT Campaign Mission BFT10 - Instrument Flight Plan Navigation

A user reported that they continually got an Altitude Failure at the 5th WP when flying at the correct altitude (12,000').

We have determined that there is a discrepancy between the HUD and Altitude indicator displayed values and what the game engine is determining as the aircrafts altitude.  It's off by a few hundred feet but it's enough to cause our trigger to fail.

For example our mission triggers are detecting +/- 300' from 12,000' and if you fly with your HUD or Altitude indicator at exactly 12,000' the game engine is actually registering your aircraft higher than 12,300' and that puts you outside the success trigger zone resulting in an Altitude Failure call.

HUD Altitude Value:

Game Altitude Value:

The short term fix is to fly to WP 5 at about 11,800' altitude instead of exactly at 12,000'.

We don't know if this is effecting other campaigns (A-10A, A-10C or MiG-29) but we will be testing those to find out.

We will also open a bug report to see if ED can fix it.

In the mean time, just fly slightly below 12,000' and you should be able to pass the mission.

We will release an update to make the trigger zone wider to account for this issue but it's surprising that the other WP's don't experience the problem so it may be localized to that area of the map.

Starway's Desert 3.0

Another recent forum find that we really like is Starway's Desert 3.0 mod.

If you haven't tried scenery mods before this one gives the Black Sea region a whole new look.

It's a desert landscape which really gives the old map a facelift.  It's like playing DCS 2.0 right now!

Recently on the forums we stumbled upon some very excellent training guides done by Charly_Owl.

His guides have excellent explanations and good graphics which make learning the various aircraft and helicopters in DCS much easier.

If you want to print them best to take them to a print shop as there are many graphics to use up your ink!  Using them from a tablet would be a better option.

Here is an example from the DCS MiG-15bis:
